

Born December 21, 1932, he was the son of the late Hugh Lewis Batten, Sr. and Samantha Batten.
Hugh was a U.S. Air Force and Navy Veteran having served his country honorary and obtaining the rank of SSGT prior to retiring from the Air Force. Following retirement, he continued to serve his country with the U.S. Naval Reserves. The last years of his life were spent living with his grandson, Dwayne Batten and wife, Teresa and their children. He brought so much to joy to their family and they were so grateful for the time they were able to spend and care for him. In addition to spending time with his family, Hugh enjoyed riding his motorcycle with his grandson, Dwayne and wood working. He will be greatly missed by all of those who loved him.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Stella Mason Batten and stepmother, Nellie Batten.
Survivors include his daughter, Diane Elizabeth Weaver and husband, Stewart of Amherst; grandsons, Dwayne Allen Batten and wife, Teresa of Dyke and James Matthew Batten of Amherst; two great-grandchildren, Jaylene Batten and Landen Batten; brother, Doug Batten and wife, Virginia of Fishersville. He is also survived by special brothers-in-law, Butch Meek and Randy Meek, who he thoroughly enjoyed spending time when they came to visit.
A graveside service will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, September 25, 2015 at Augusta Memorial Park with Pastor Clayton Payne officiating.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. on Thursday, September 24, 2015 at the Waynesboro Chapel of Reynolds Hamrick Funeral Homes, 618 W. Main St.
The family would like to give a special thank you to his nurse, Jaye Dale Morris, for her support and dedication to Mr. Batten during the last year of his life and the staff of Hospice of the Piedmont for their care shown over the last several days.
