James Douglas "Jimmy" Cash

Mr. Cash was born on October 10, 1947 in Waynesboro, and was a son of the late Finley and Kathleen (Ross) Cash. Jimmy served in the United States Navy from 1965 until 1971 and received the National Defense Service Medal and was a golden glove boxer. Following his military service, he drove a tractor trailer for 25 years for Preston Trucking Company. He also drove for J & R Trucking for ten years and most recently with Commodity Specialist. He was a member of the Teamsters Union Local #29. He loved his job, and believed in working hard. He enjoyed his horses and working around his home. After his retirement, he spent every moment possible with his daughter and family and his friends at Rice’s Auto Repair.

Jimmy is survived by a daughter, Gerri L. Cash of Waynesboro; three sons, Ashby L. Cash of Waynesboro, David M. Cash of Nashville, TN, Timothy Scarbrough and wife Wendy of Crozet; a brother, Finley M. Cash Jr., and wife Glenna of Waynesboro; two sisters, Lynn Fix of Stuarts Draft and Dee Dunn and husband Jerry of Waynesboro; a special nephew Chad Cash of Waynesboro; a special niece, Shara Price of Crimora; five uncles, James A. Ross of Hampton, VA, Bruce F. Cash of Greenville, Herbert Cash, Gene Cash and Warren Cash all of Waynesboro; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins; and close friends Rice Brooks and Wayne Hutchinson. In addition to his parents, Mr. Cash was also preceded in death by two brothers, Paul A. Cash and Donald E. Ross; brother-in-law Tommy Fix; and longtime friends Frank “Whip” Wilson and William “Bill” Ross.

The family would like to extend a sincere THANK YOU to Drs. Hatter and Kane and his longtime caregivers, Judy Palmore, Tatum Fisher, and former wife Crystal C. Cash, and to the Nurses and Staff of Augusta Health Hospice of the Shenandoah.

Funeral services will be held at 11 AM on Saturday, September 15, 2012 at the Waynesboro Chapel of Reynolds Hamrick Funeral Homes with Pastor Randy Blankenship officiating. Burial will follow at Riverview Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 until 9 PM on Friday, September 14, 2012 at the funeral home.

Active pallbearers for the service will be Keith Hutchinson, Eddie Critzer, Jeff Rogers, Rice Brooks, Chad Cash and Wayne Hutchinson.
