Obituary of James Michael Friend
James Michael Friend, 82, of Stuarts Draft, had his resurrection day on Saturday April 10, 2021. James Michael Friend, also known as, Honey, Sweetheart, Mick (if in WV), Jim (if in VA), Dad, Poppa, Big, Pappy, and Jeremiah Kincaid, III, was born on October 12, 1938 in Terra Alta, West Virginia. He was the son of the late Warden and Mary Grace (Hoban) Friend. After graduating from Preston County High School, he attended Potomac State College. Jim distinguished himself in several careers: District Supervisor for Safeway Grocery Stores; Owner of Quality Supermarket; Manager for Harris Teeter and as a Licensed Agent with Re-Max Advantage. Jim, loved serving The Lord and was a very devoted, active member of Fishersville United Methodist Church. He also was active in the Waynesboro Lions and Elks Clubs. He had a passion for working in/on his lawn and could easily have been a greens keeper for a prestigious golf course! He had a need to clean his/our car’s windshields until they sparkled. He loved his Starbucks Chai Tea and Pellegrino. Known as a great story teller, all who listened, hung on his every word. In addition to his love of the Lord, Jim deeply loved Family, most of all! His parents, his wife Cheryl, his 3 children and their spouses, 9 grandchildren and their significant others, and his 3 great grand children. He loved his 7 siblings, their spouses and his large extended family. Jim loved friends to the point that they “became family!” He just loved people, and they loved him back! How amazing it is that his last name, Friend, accurately represented Jim Friend, the man. Jim is survived by his precious wife of 63 years, Cheryl Friend. He also leaves behind: his 3 children: Pam Friend Bayliss and her husband, Bill, Penny Friend and Tony Wenger, and Michael Friend and his wife, Ashley. He is survived by his 9 grand children: Lindsey Friend and Alex, William Bayliss, Andrew German and Emily, James Friend and his wife, Jennifer, Harrison Bayliss, Elizabeth German and Salmaan, Rachel Friend and Robbie, Kenijah Alexander, and Roman Friend. He is also survived by 3 great grandchildren: Avery Friend, Bennett Mann, and Lainey Friend.
