James Franklin Surratt

James Franklin Surratt, 81, of Waynesboro passed away on Saturday, June 22, 2019 at the Shenandoah Hospice House. He was born on February 27, 1938, a son of the late Guy William and Lila (Gum) Surratt. James was a graduate of Wilson Memorial High School Class of 1957. He proudly served in the United States Army. James worked for over 30 years at DuPont and retired in 1994. He attended Lyndhurst United Methodist Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Juanita (Wright) Surratt and a brother, Ronald Lee Surratt. Survivors include his step-son, George Buzzard and wife, Norma; siblings, Samuel Surratt and wife, Jenie, Bill Surratt and wife, Joyce and June Whitesell and husband, J.D.; sister-in-law, Christine Surratt; as well as numerous extended family and friends. A memorial service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 27, 2019 at Lyndhurst United Methodist Church, 2835 Lyndhurst Rd, Lyndhurst, VA 22952, with Pastor Vivian M. Utz officiating. The family will receive friends following the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in James’s memory to the Augusta Health Foundation, Hospice of the Shenandoah, P.O. Box 1000, Fishersville, VA 22939 or Lyndhurst United Methodist Church. The family wishes to express a heartfelt thank you to the staff at the Shenandoah Hospice House for their loving care of James and his family.
