

James was born in Key West, Florida, to the late Dorothy L. Terry and James O. Terry on December 30th, 1956. He graduated from Stuarts Draft High School in 1975, before going on to a career as a master electrician and general contractor. James kept himself moving and busy by constantly helping anyone who needed him with electrical, plumbing, or construction issues. He was a hardworking, selfless, and loving man who adored his family and cherished his title of “Pappy.” When not working, he could always be found surrounded by his family and friends, where he kept everyone in stitches with his unmatched wit and sense of humor. James will be missed by everyone who had the chance to know him.
James is survived by his daughter, Sara Joy Bankard, and son Joshua Waylon Hite (Alina Soerensen), both of Waynesboro; as well as his beloved grandchildren, Peyton Joy, Skyla Joy, Tavin Rylan, Lily Brett, Rosalie Jaclyn, and Willow Bri. He is also survived by his sisters, Penny Ward (Mike) and Tammy Terry (Ken Bright); brother, Buck Terry (Sara); and an extended family and friend group too large to name.
A funeral service will be conducted on Tuesday, October 28th, 2025 at 10:00 AM at the Waynesboro Chapel of Reynolds Hamrick Funeral Homes with Pastor Stacey Burkholder officiating. Following the service, burial will follow at Sherando United Methodist Cemetery in Stuarts Draft.
Pallbearers will be Joshua Hite, Caleb Via, Mike Ward, Buck Terry, Ken Bright, and David Kirby.
The family will receive friends on Monday, October 27th, 2025, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Waynesboro Chapel of Reynolds Hamrick Funeral Homes.
