

Lelia Jane (Layman) Bateman, 89, of Waynesboro passed away on Sunday, January 8, 2017 at the Shenandoah Nursing Home and Rehab. She was born in Waynesboro on July 1, 1927, a daughter of the late Earl G. and Hallie C. (Hughson) Layman.
Jane worked as a successful realtor for over 25 years and actively served on the Board of Realtors. She retired as a realtor with Montague Miller and Company. Jane was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Waynesboro.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 46 years, Doyle O. Bateman; siblings, Eugene L. Layman and Earlene “Mickey” Eheart; nephews, Steven Eheart and Benjamin “Spike” Eheart.
Survivors include her nieces, Karla (Layman) Campbell and her husband, Lanny and Patricia M. Knous; nephew, Kendall S. Layman and wife, April; special friend, Kay Liming, all of Waynesboro.
A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, January 13, 2017 at the Waynesboro Chapel of Reynolds Hamrick Funeral Homes with Rev. Jerry Steele officiating. A private burial will follow at Augusta Memorial Park.
Active Pallbearers will be Kendall Layman, Chris Layman, Matt Layman, Kent Hite, Sam Argenbright and Eric Argenbright.
