Born October 18, 1931 in Charlottesville, she was the daughter of the late Bosba C. and Annie C. (Hughes) Small. She married Charles H. Martin. The two shared a blessed union of almost 70 years together.
Jean was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church, Waynesboro. As a church member, she enjoyed serving others through the Meals on Wheels program. Traveling was a hobby of hers and she enjoyed her trips abroad, especially to Europe. She will be remembered as an avid gardener, an excellent cook and someone who loved spending time with her family. Her generosity and warmth towards others will never be forgotten.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Charles H. Martin, II; granddaughter, Susan Martin Piper; one sister, June Small; and three brothers, Rudolph V., B.C., Jr. and A.G. Small.
In addition to her loving husband, survivors include her four children, Laura M. Noel (Ralph Eccles) of Ellicott City, MD, Richard C. Martin (Patsy F.) of Waynesboro, Beverley M. Crickenberger (George) of Midlothian, Va and Jacqueline L. Martin (James W. Stuart) of Poquoson, Va; daughter-in-law, Martha Martin of New Kent, Va; eight grandchildren; six great grandchildren; sister, Eileen S. Campbell of Waynesboro; and a number of nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to thank her granddaughter, Kim Martin and her staff at Royal Care for their love and support.
The family will receive friends from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 18, 2018 at the Waynesboro Chapel of Reynolds Hamrick Funeral Homes, 618 W. Main St.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, October 19, 2018 at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 1904 Mt. Vernon St., Waynesboro, with Pastor April Cranford officiating. Burial will be private.
