

Born May 31, 1947 in Augusta County, he was the son of the late John Richard and Edna Ruth (Monroe) Painter Fretwell.
Mr. Painter worked in the construction business and was co-owner of J & P Home Improvements. He was a member of the Augusta County Fraternal Order of Eagles #4129. John was an avid outdoorsman and loved to fish. In his spare time, he enjoyed spending time with family and friends, especially his grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by wife, Patsy Painter; siblings, Hester Moran, Winston Painter and Dale Painter.
Survivors include his children, Raymond Myers, Jr., Sissy Taylor, Gail McFarland, Butch McLear and Randy McLear; grandchildren, Buck and Becky Myers, Robbie and Heather McFarland, Angel Cook and Katelyn McLear; great-grandson, R.J. McFarland; siblings, David Painter, Grace Tomlin, Herman Painter and wife Florine, Lois Oliver and Phyllis Rose; special niece, Julie Tomlin; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, October 18, 2012 from 6 P.M. until 8 P.M. at the Waynesboro Chapel of Reynolds Hamrick Funeral Homes, 618 W. Main Street. Following family night, his body will be cremated and all services will be private.
