Joseph Nathan Nicely

Joseph was born in Collierstown, VA, to Edna R. Nicely and Nathan M. Nicely on August 4th, 1934. Joseph attended Waynesboro High School and spent 35 years of his professional life working at McQuay International. In his spare time, Joseph enjoyed hunting and fishing, as well as being the manager of the Harriston Braves for 16 years. He was a long-time member of Hermitage Presbyterian Church and was a lifetime supporter of Virginia Fisheries and Wildlife Rescue.

In addition to his parents, Joseph was preceded in death by his sisters, Stella Sorrels and Annie Nicely.

Joseph is survived by his beloved wife of 70 years, Pauline Nicely; his sons, Jay Nicely (Bobbi), Neal Nicely, and Larry Nicely. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Stephen Nicely Jr. (Meredeth Lawhorne), Ashley Nicely-Fix (Scott), Whitney Nicely (Mark), Haley Morris (Chris), and James “JT” Talley (Samantha); great grandchildren, Elijah Johnson, Ben Morris, Alex Morris, and Addison Fix; as well as his brother, Don Nicely.

A Graveside Service will be conducted at 11:00 AM on Thursday, May 21st, 2026 at Augusta Memorial Park with Pastor Larry Roberts officiating. Following the Graveside, a Celebration of Life Service will be held at Hermitage Presbyterian Church for any who wish to attend.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, May 20th, 2026, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Waynesboro Chapel of Reynolds Hamrick Funeral Homes.
