

Joseph Daniel Reich, 78 formerly of San Antonio Texas, passed away peacefully on August 15, 2023, in Fishersville, Virginia
Joseph was born June 16, 1945, in Brooklyn, NY. Joseph graduated from St. Mary’s High School Katonah, NY in 1964. During his studies at Westminster Community College, Joseph enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps 1966 and was commissioned 1970 as a First Lieutenant (Infantry Officer) and retired as a Lieutenant Colonel 1997.
His service awards include: Bronze Star Medal w/combat “Valor”; Purple Heart, Meritorious Service Medal, Navy Commendation Medal w/combat “Valor”; Combat Action Ribbon, Presidential Unit Citation w/star; Navy Unit Commendation w/star; Meritorious Unit Commendation w/star; National Defense Service Medal w/star; Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal; Vietnam Service Medal w/star; Humanitarian Service Medal; Sea Service Deployment Ribbon w/star; Republic of Vietnam Meritorious Unit Citation (Gallantry Cross Medal Color w/palm); and the Marine Corps Recruiting Ribbon.
In 1997, Joseph was employed with EDO and then ITT as a government contractor where he oversaw work with the Marine Corps Warfighting Lab in Quantico until his retirement in 2008.
Joseph was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Marine Corps Officer’s Association and a member of VFW Post 942 Fonda, NY.
Joseph is survived by two sons, Matthew (Suzanne) Reich of Fishersville, Virginia and Mark (Kimberly) Reich of Stephen City, Virginia. Two beautiful granddaughters, Adelheide and Sophia. Joseph is also survived by the mother of his children, Mary Lou Burrell Reich, Calabash, North Carolina, Brothers James (Katie) Brookfield New York, Thomas (Shannon) Laguna Vista Texas, William (Judy) San Diego, California, and Christopher (Angela) Ashland, Oregon. Sisters Virginia Reich, Lady Lake Florida, Rosemary Reich Hildebrandt (Robert) McAllen Texas, Mary Frances Travis (Joe) Salem Illinois, sister-in-law Mary E. Reich of Buckeye, Arizona along with many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Joseph was predeceased in death by his parents, Margaret M. Doherty Reich and Joseph J. Reich, brothers Daniel W. Reich, John M. Reich and nephews Bryan P. Reich and Joshua J. Reich.
A rosary service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, December 1, 2023 at Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church, 12975 Purcell Rd, Manassas, VA followed by a funeral mass at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow with military honors at 1:30 p.m. at Quantico National Cemetery, 18424 Joplin Rd, Triangle, VA. Following the interment, a reception for family and friends will be held from 2:30 p.m. until 4:30 p.m. at the National Museum of the Marine Corps, 1775 Semper Fidelis Wy, Triangle, VA 22172.
