
Joseph B. Rhodes went home to be with his Lord Sunday, September 28, 2014. He passed peacefully where he resided at Royal Care, surrounded by his devoted care givers. He was born September 15, 1932 in Louisville, KY, the son of Romeo and Mary Rhodes, the youngest of seven children.
Survivors include his loving wife, Arlene “Sweetie” Thacker Rhodes; four children, Joanne Helstrom of Ft. Gains, GA, Michele Doak of Manassas, VA, Lewis “Henry” Rhodes of Fairfax, VA, and Pamela Miller of Lakeridge,VA ; ten grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren; his only surviving sister, Mary Rhodes Hillard of KY.
Joe served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Afterward, he held various jobs, the longest being a salesman for Southern Office Supply.
Joe was very friendly and outgoing. He was involved in many community organizations, such as the Arlington Moose Lodge, Arlington, VA, Independent Orders of Odd Fellows, D.C., and the Arlington Fire Department, Arlington, VA. He was an active member of Arlington Baptist Church, Arlington, VA, where he served as a Sunday School Teacher, Deacon, and sang in the choir.
A Memorial Service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 4, 2014 at First Baptist Church of Waynesboro, 301 S Wayne Ave, Waynesboro, VA.
