
She was born on May 9, 1941, in Augusta County, a daughter of the late William and Mildred Conner Rusmisel.
She was a graduate of Wilson Memorial High School, retired from Western State Hospital as a licensed practical nurse, attended Jollivue United Methodist Church and sang with the Happy Notes until her illness progressed.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Patricia Vest.
Survivors include two sons, Jeffrey Riley of Staunton and Franklin Riley of Staunton; two daughters, Gail Hanger of Fishersville and Sandra Heatwole of Gladstone; two brothers, William "Bill" Rusmisel Jr. of Staunton and Robert Rusmisel of Staunton; a sister, Lorraine Balmoos of Pennsylvania; three grandchildren, Jennifer Nicole Heatwole, Tabitha Dawn Riley and Nathanel Riley; and one great-grandchild, Caleb Heatwole. She also leaves her special pet "Katie".
Honoring her wishes a graveside service will be conducted 2:30 p.m. Friday, November 18, 2011, at Calvary United Methodist Church with Pastors Janet C. Knott and Tom Reynolds officiating.
There will no public viewing or visitation at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, the family request that memorial donations be made to the American Cancer Society , 420 Neff Avenue, Suite 210, Harrisonburg, VA 22801; SPCA, 33 Archery Lane, Staunton, VA 24401; or the Blue Ridge Area Food Bank, 96 Laurel Hill Road, Verona, VA 24482.
