She was born January 8, 1941, a daughter of the late Herbert S. Thompson and Alma Virginia Thompson.
In addition to her parents, Judy was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph R. Oakes, and her brother, Carl Thompson.
Survivors include her sons, Jeff McDaniel (Kathy) of Staunton, and Jerry McDaniel (Dana) of Waynesboro; a step-daughter, Tina M. Leggett (Larry) of Spokane, WA; step-sons, Stuart L. Oakes (Claraesa) of Elkton, Daniel S. Oakes (Robin) of Greensboro, NC; three grandchildren, Justin McDaniel, Cori McDaniel and Ryan McDaniel; as well as 12 step-grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. Judy is also survived by a sister, Jean Patzsch of Toano. Finally, she leaves behind her feline sidekick, “Baby”.
Judy will be remembered for her loving nature, especially towards her grandchildren and her cat, Baby.
She was a longtime employee of Genicom and was a member of Lyndhurst United Methodist Church.
Following cremation, a memorial service will be held at Lyndhurst United Methodist Church at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, June 30, 2023 with Rev. Lori Valentine de Segovia officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to Lyndhurst United Methodist Church (2835 Lyndhurst Rd, Lyndhurst, VA 22952) in Judy’s name.
