Knut I. Nilsson, Jr.

Born April 9, 1930, in Washington D.C., he was the son of the late Knut Ivar Nilsson, Sr. and Ethel (Fiske) Nilsson.

Knut was an active member of St. John’s Episcopal Church, Ellicott City, MD. Prior to retirement, he was employed with State Farm Insurance Company where he worked as a Claims Manager. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran having served his country honorably rising to the rank of 1st Lieutenant. Knut greatly enjoyed sailing and playing golf.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Susan Thornhill; sister, Jean Mallis; and his former wife and mother of his children, Lucy Page Nilsson.

Survivors include his wife, Sonia Nilsson; daughter, Cathy Bateman and husband, Scott; son, David Nilsson and wife, Joni; son-in-law, Ward Thornhill; step-sons, Andrew Regalado and wife, Dayna, Anthony Regalado and wife, Sharon; step-daughter, Sharon Sheng and husband, Henry; grandchildren, Katie Wheat and husband, Chris, David Thornhill and wife, Kelly, and Blair Thornhill and fiancé, Brandon Brown; great-grandchildren, Emma and Ella Thornhill; step-grandchildren, Hudson and Foster Regalado, Makayla and Nayah Regalado, and Mia Sheng; and two nephews, Nick and Steve Mallis.

A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, August 9, 2021 at Crest Lawn Memorial Gardens, 2150 Mt. View Road, Marriottsville, MD with Rev. Clyde G. Morsberger officiating. All who plan to attend are asked to meet directly at the cemetery.

There will be no formal viewing or visitation at the funeral home.
