Laura Bruff Scherman

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Laura Bruff Scherman, who departed this life on October 27, 2025 at the age of 73. She was a cherished wife, grandmother, sister, Aunt and friend whose presence brought warmth and joy to all who knew her.

Laura was born on May 24, 1952, in Greenwich, CT.

Laura was family-oriented, deeply connected to loved ones and friends, with a generous, loyal and playful spirit. She had a compassionate heart for animals and people, a nurturing soul who gave care freely. She was artistic, creative and soulful, and found meaning in nature and self-expression. She lived her life with authenticity and gratitude.

She is survived by her wife, Ellen Longmoore, brother, Peter Scherman (Peggy), sisters Phebe Vick (Wayne) and Joanie Dorr (Fred), her stepdaughter, Jennifer Murphree (Morgan), her grandchildren, Mallory Garmon, Abbey Garmon, Mandy Garmon, Sanders Murphree and Jack Murphree, many beloved nieces and nephews, as well as many dear friends and extended family members. She was preceded in death by her parents, E. Sykes and Trudy Scherman.

All services will be held privately.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Rockfish Wildlife Sanctuary or Best Friends Animal Sanctuary, organizations close to Laura’s heart.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Reynolds Hamrick Funeral Homes of Waynesboro.
