Martha was born in Hampton, and raised in Williamsburg, Virginia. She met her future husband of 51 years, Rob, in Bruton Parish Church Sunday school. The historic church would host her wedding and the baptism of her son in the following years.
A teacher, an executive assistant, lobbyist, and an entrepreneur, Martha would make a home and career in the Washington, DC area before retiring to Wintergreen, set in the Blue Ridge Mountains. A true partner in life with her husband, an adoring mother, devoted sibling, and loyal friend, Martha‘s irrepressible joy will remain with the many who loved her. An accomplished knitter, and remodeler, she was handy indeed, but her keen wit and open heart will be cherished most by family and friends.
She was predeceased by her brother, Philip B. Williams and her parents, Betty B. Williams and John W. Williams, Sr.
She is survived by her husband, Robert G. Gray; her son, R. Gordon Gray; brother, John W. Williams, Jr. (Bill) and wife, Arlene; sister, Frances W. Davis (Fran); nieces, Sarah D. Long and Kathryn D. Brigger.
A celebration of Martha’s life will be held on Saturday, August 6th from 1:00 - 3:00pm at the Devil’s Grill at Devil’s Knob Golf Course in Wintergreen Mountain Resort, Virginia.
