Martie was born in Waynesboro to Charles and Jeanne Long on December 12, 1942. After graduating from Waynesboro High School, she attended Ferrum College. Eager to find more diverse job opportunities, she relocated to Richmond, eventually marrying twice and having two children. After divorce, she moved back home to care for her ailing father, while starting a career as a librarian at the local library. After her father’s death in 1993, she bought a new house and lived comfortably there the rest of her days.
Martie was preceded in death by her numerous beloved pets that she frequently adopted and cared for throughout her life.
Martie is survived by her son, Todd and daughter, Nicole Miller Massie; as well as her niece, Terrie Lynn Long and nephew, Chad Long.
Following cremation, all services will be held privately.
There will be no formal viewing or visitation at the funeral home.
Flowers are appreciated but Martha requested that memorials be given to local animal care charities Spay/Neuter Inc. and Homeless Paws.
The family of Martha Louise Massie wishes to extend our sincere thanks to Dr. Shelley Snodgrass, the caring staffs of Augusta Health, UVa Hospital, River Edge Rehab and Hospice of the Shenandoah.
Arrangements entrusted to Reynolds Hamrick Funeral Homes of Waynesboro.
