

Mary Ann Long Burnett, 81, of Waynesboro passed away Thursday, January 14, 2016 at the Shenandoah Hospice House. She was born in Fletcher, Ohio on February 1, 1934, a daughter of the late Charles Franklin Long and Helen Audrey (Kiser) Long Axe.
She was a graduate of Troy High School. Mary Ann worked as a cafeteria chef for Kate-Collins Junior High School. She greatly enjoyed bowling, cooking and writing poems. Mary Ann had a great and caring heart that always put other people’s needs above her own. Just like her late husband, Roger, Mary Ann had a wonderful sense of humor with a loud and contagious laugh that filled the air.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Roger L. Burnett; step-father, Harold Axe; and two brothers, James and Charles “Tom” Long.
Survivors include her children, David Burnett and wife, Sherry, Tana Moore and husband, Billy and Kelly Shifflett and husband, David; grandchildren, Jason Burnett, Chris Burnett, Levi Brown( Kari), Matt Oliver( Aleshea), Lindsey Fletcher (Brian) and Hannah Burnett(Tyler); step grandchildren, Jake Moore (Alyssa) and Faith Richie ( Todd); 12 great grandchildren; a sister, Nancy North; a sister-in-law, Jo Ann Worrell; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
Following Mary Ann’s wishes for cremation, a graveside service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., on Friday, January 22, 2016 at Riverview Cemetery with Rev. Levi Brown officiating.
The family would like to express a heartfelt thank you to the staff and volunteers, especially, Dot Greenawalt and the guitar player, Angie, at the Shenandoah Hospice House for all the wonderful love and care given to Mary Ann and her family.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Mary Ann’s memory to the Multiple Sclerosis Associations of America, P.O. Box 1887 Merrifield, VA 22116 and/or the Shenandoah House, 111 N. Campus Ln., Fishersville, VA 22939.
