Born June 20, 1937 in Albemarle County, she was a daughter of the late Martha E. (Chumley) Collins.
Millie dedicated 20 years of service to Brown & Root Industrial Services, where she retired as a journeyman insulator and was honored with the Golden Hard Hat Award. She began her career as an insulator helper and, through hard work, determination, and perseverance, advanced to become a skilled insulator, proving she could excel in a field traditionally dominated by men.
After retirement, Millie enjoyed crocheting, sewing, reading her Bible, and preparing meals for her family. Family was the center of her life, and she found great joy in caring for those she loved. She will be lovingly remembered as a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and aunt whose kindness, strength, and unwavering love touched the lives of many.
In addition to her mother, she was preceded in death by her son, George McCauley; daughter, Donna Chadwick; and several sisters and brothers.
Survivors include her son, Michael Puffenbarger of Waynesboro; granddaughter, Holly Fields and husband, Michael of Waynesboro; great-grandson, Cole Fields of Waynesboro; brother, Joe Proffitt; sister, Janie Sprouse; her precious cat, Loopy; and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.
