

Born June 15, 1929 in Nelson County, she was the daughter of the late Harvie Leslie and Mary Louise (Hamilton) Thompson.
Nellie was a member of Beech Grove Christian Church, Roseland, Va. Prior to retirement, she was employed by Polybond where she worked for over 30 years. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Elmer G. Staton; son-in-law, John Brown; sisters, Margaret Sewine and Shirley Bradley; and one brother, John Thompson.
Survivors include her three children, Judy Meeks Brown of Afton, Rebecca J. Meeks of Nellysford and Larry H. Meeks and wife, Melissa of Waynesboro; six grandchildren, Dawn, Melissa, Michael, Shanan, Zac and Bailey; six great grandchildren, Morgan, Nathan, Giovanni, Mackayla, Meliah and Mariah; one great-great grandchild, Brantley.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 28, 2018 at the Waynesboro Chapel of Reynolds Hamrick Funeral Homes, 618 W. Main St., with Pastor Gary May officiating. Burial will follow in Augusta Memorial Park.
Active pallbearers will be Jeff Martin, Steve Short, Michael Brown, Zac Meeks, Chris Aitcheson and Nathan Aitcheson.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 27, 2018 at the funeral home.
