Phil was born in New Jersey to Matilda (Palotta) D’Ambola and Philip Raphael D’Ambola on April 21st, 1946. Phil was the son of a nurse and doctor, and was the second generation of his large Italian family to be born in America. Phil and his wife owned Earthrise Computer Center in New Jersey for 15 years before moving to Virginia. They also owned D’Ambolas Italian Restaurant in Afton for 9 years before retiring. In his spare time, Phil loved to travel, frequently surprising his family with trips to Europe and locations across the U.S, including to the 100th anniversary of Carnegie Hall in New York. He had a special love for Italy, but also loved just being outdoors in the U.S. Phil co-owned a tree farm in Nelson County and loved the trees to the end of his life.
In addition to his parents, Phil was preceded in death by a sister, Kathleen D’Ambola.
Phil is survived by his beloved wife, Linda D’Ambola of Afton; his son, Justin Wade D’Ambola of Afton; and a large extended family in Vermont, Massachusetts and Florida.
Per Phil’s wishes, there will be no formal services.
