
He was born September 24, 1940 in Waynesboro, son of the late Worth and Nellie Robertson Wheeler.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by son-in-law Mike Montgomery and brother-in-law Harold Englert.
Ray was a member of the Blue Ridge Church of Christ and the former owner of R & M Automotive. He was a former President of the Dooms Ruritan Club and a former school bus driver for the Augusta County Schools.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Wheeler; one son, Randy Wheeler of Stuarts Draft; two daughters, Roxie Megginson and husband Jimmy of Fishersville and Sharon Montgomery of Waynesboro; one brother, Jimmy Wheeler and wife Jane of Weyers Cave; three sisters, Thelma Thompson of Waynesboro, Shirley Englert of Lyndhurst, and Jean Fisher and husband Jack of Waynesboro; seven grandchildren, Jeremy, Garrett and Kaili Wheeler, Caleb and Seth Megginson; John and Samantha Montgomery; two great-grandchildren, Mikah and Ethan Wheeler; He is also survived by a special friend, Jamie Sanchez. The family would like to give special thanks to the staff and nurses at the Shenandoah House, Dr. James Boyer and the Hope Center for their loving care of Ray.
The family will receive friends at Mary’s home.
A private burial service will be held at a later date.
