Robert Lee Barker

He was born June 14, 1937, a son of the late Cecil M. and Virginia G. (Fitzgerald) Barker.

Robert “Bob” served his country in the United States Navy, was a member of Shenandoah Heights Baptist Church and retired from I. D. McCary Trucking.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sons, David Barker and Terry Barker; daughter, Melissa A. Gilson; two brothers, Charles F. Barker and Russell M. Barker; two granddaughters, Gloria Heslep and Veronica Herold; and a great-grandson, Darren Scott Truslow.

Survivors include his loving wife of 48 years, Charlsie Mae (Dowdy) Barker; son, Wm. Neil Heslep; two daughters, Lisa Shaw League and Teressa Barker Joiner; 14 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, July 11, 2025 at Shenandoah Heights Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. Paul LaPrevotte officiating. Burial with military rites will follow in Augusta Memorial Park.

Active pallbearers will be Blake Joiner, Chris Joiner, Jonathan Riley, Neil Heslep, Charles Thompson and Chris Cox.

The family will receive friends from 7:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 10, 2025 at the Waynesboro Chapel of Reynolds Hamrick Funeral Homes and Crematory, 618 W. Main St., Waynesboro, Va.
