

He was born May 4, 1924 in Charleston, West Virginia, the son of the late Forest Weldon and Elsie Shinault Harman.
Joe owned and operated the Sherando Grocery for twenty seven years.
He was a member of the Sherando United Methodist Church and the Sherando-Lyndhurst Ruritan Club.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia “Jenny” Harman on January 24, 2006, three brothers, F. W. Harman, Jr., J. P. Harman, Sonny Harman, three sisters, Dottie Sheffield, Mildred Brewer and Kathleen Patterson.
Survivors include nieces and nephews that were his children; Judy Brewer McDonald, Dickie Patterson, Kathy Sheffield Haley, Vicki Sheffield Scala, Sharon Harman Kirks, two sisters-in-law, Martha Fretwell, Sue Harman, brother-in-law, Sonny Balsley, as well as a number of other nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held 11:00 AM Wednesday, July 27, 2011 at the Sherando United Methodist Church with the Rev. David Breeden and Charles Ramsey officiating.
Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Active pallbearers will be Jim and John Davis, Leonard and Paul Balsley, Charles “Skippy” Lunsford, Jr., and Roxy Liptrap.
Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Sherando-Lyndhurst Ruritan Club.
The family will receive friends from 6-7:30 PM Tuesday, July 26, 2011 at the Waynesboro Chapel of Reynolds Hamrick Funeral Homes.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Waynesboro First Aid Crew, 201 W. Broad St., Waynesboro,Va. 22980.
