Robert "Sonny" Austin Smith Jr., 68, of Sandy Ridge Road, passed away at 10:25 p.m. on Wednesday April 30, 2014, at his home. He was born on October 7, 1945, a son of the late Robert Austin Sr. and Eunice Anderson Smith. Sonny retired from Riggers Trucking Inc. of Richmond, Virginia, after 24 years of service. Survivors include his wife, Cindy, of 33 years; a son, Shane Smith of Waynesboro; two daughters, Sonja Spradlin and husband, Curley, of Scottsville, and Stacy Desimone of Waynesboro; a brother, James Smith and wife, Roberta, of Mechanicsville; a sister, Fay Coffey and husband, Jerry, of Waynesboro; and three grandchildren, Whitney Spradlin, Amy Desimone and Wyatt Desimone. At his request his body will be cremated and there will be no services. Reynolds Hamrick Funeral Homes has been entrusted with the arrangements.
