

Rev. Rupert Rebena Strawbridge was born on December 15,1942 in Glasgow, Virginia to the late Sebastin and Margaret Strawbridge. He passed away peacefully at his home on December 17, 2025 at the age of 83.
A longtime resident of New Albany, Indiana, Rupert faithfully served his country in the United States Air Force, attaining the rank of E-5. He devoted his life to ministry as a pastor in the field, and an associate pastor for Christ Gospel Churches International, where he was known for his steady faith and commitment to service.
He also served his community as a probation officer, demonstrating a lifelong commitment to guidance, accountability and service.
Rupert also served his community through working in social services as a social worker, as well as substitute teaching.
Rupert is survived by his beloved wife, Helen Strawbridge; children, Monique Dempsey (Willie), Rupert Strawbridge II, Janet Burton (Tim); grandchildren, Sherisse Glen, Willie Dempsey III, Marvin Walkenhorst, Timothy Burton, Nihna Burton, Sasha Tilliman, Rupert Strawbridge III; great grandchildren, Maya Criner, Tayo Tillman; siblings, Joseph, Eric, Dennis, Clinton, Allen, Cassandra and Denise.
Visitation was held at Kraft Funeral Home on Monday, January 5, 2026 from 4:00-8:00 PM and Tuesday, January 6th, 2026 at Christ Gospel Church from 9:00-11:00 AM.
A Homegoing Service for Rev. Rupert Strawbridge was held on Tuesday, January 6th, 2026 at 11:00 AM at Christ Gospel Church.
A Homegoing Service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, January 17th, 2026 at First Baptist Church, 103 N. Main St., Lexington, Virginia with Rev. McKinley Williams officiating.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
Burial will follow in Rockbridge Memorial Gardens, 116 Peaceful Lane Lexington, Va.
