Sunday, March 13, 2022, at the age of 62 in her home in Waynesboro, Virginia.
Born Sandra Lynn Rohr on September 6, 1959, Sandy spent the first 16 years of her life in
Hatfield, Pennsylvania. There she enjoyed swimming and playing the trumpet in the school
band. After a much contentious move to Camp Hill, Pennsylvania, Sandy settled in for her last
two years of high school. In 1977, Sandy saw the first Star Wars movie, which kindled in her a
love for the franchise (R2D2 especially) and a love for film in general that would last the rest of
her life.
Sandy graduated from Virginia Tech in the early eighties with a degree in Fisheries Science.
This led to her long career in service of the US Navy, whom she worked for as a computer
programmer. Her work took her from Pennsylvania to Ohio, and her retirement in 2020 led her
to move to Waynesboro in 2021, to spend more time with her son, Jeremy, his wife, Cynthia,
and her grandchildren, Cooper and Lily. She spent the last six months of her life watching her
granddaughter, Lily, and had recently stated that it made her very happy.
Sandy enjoyed a lifelong love of film, going to the movie theater at every opportunity. She also
inherited a love of the Philadelphia Eagles from her father, Robert Rohr, a love she shared with
her son, brother, and nephews. She also loved to travel, including trips to Arizona and Indiana.
Her best remembered travel experience, however, was to Italy, where she greatly enjoyed Sicily.
Sandy cherished a deep love for her family. In her youth, this translated best in the bonds she
had with her aunts, the love she had for her parents, and the enduring relationships she had
with her brothers. In her adult life this translated best as love for her sons, her many friends,
and, eventually, her grandchildren. She loved generously and with complexity and she will be
sorely missed.
Sandy is preceded in death by both her parents, Robert Rohr and M. Lois Rohr (neé Beyer), as
well as her son, Christopher Shamansky. She is survived by her son, Jeremy Grant, his wife,
Cynthia, and their two children, Cooper and Lily Grant; her brother, Jeff Rohr, his wife, Kathy,
and their three children, Allison, Jack, and Matthew; and her brother, Robert Rohr, his wife,
Katrin, and their two children, Philip Rohr and Seraina Günther.
Following cremation, all services will be private and details will be provided in the near future.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Reynolds Hamrick Funeral Homes of Waynesboro.
