Mrs. Proctor was born on June 29, 1935 in Washington, DC and was the daughter of the late Leroy Benjamin and Dorothy Mae (Allen) Ford. She retired as a Supervisor of Food Service from the Prince George’s County School System in Maryland. Shirley was baptised as a Jehovah Witness. She loved to attend services, telling people the good news as she learnt it. She also loved to crochet, draw, color, play games on the tablet and spend long weekends with family.
On April 4, 1953 she married James Ernest Proctor, Sr., who preceded her in death on October 28, 2010.
Mrs. Proctor is survived by her children, Wanda E. Robinson of Waynesboro; James E. Proctor, Jr., of Charlottesville, David A. Proctor, Sr., and wife Melissa of Winchester; siblings, Frances Savoy of Chesterfield, VA, Delores Proctor and husband Leo of Waldorf, MD, Nancy Shackleford of Waldorf, MD, Deborah Smith of Waynesboro; 12 grandchildren, George Nicholson Jr., and wife Robin, Derrick Nicholson, Shawn Nicholson, Eric Folks and wife Tracy, Lydia Folks, David Proctor Jr., MacKenzie Shifflett, Kyi Scott, Shelby Shifflett, Michael Shifflett, Cher Barbour, Derrick Barbour and wife Danielle; 17 great-grandchildren; and 4 great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Proctor was preceded in death by a daughter, Lydia Barbour; and her siblings, Janice Frye, Dorothy Carter, and Howard Ford.
A celebration of life service will be held at a later date.
