

Skip was born in Brooklyn, NY to Jessie (Pierce) and Sterling G. Sears ,Sr. on June 1, 1931. He attended Wilbraham Academy in Massachusetts and Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, NY before serving in the US Army in the early 1950s. In addition to working as a civil engineer, surveyor and industrial manager, Sterling owned several restaurants both in Stamford and Cooperstown NY, as well as the former Coffee Mill in Waynesboro. After retirement, he worked at Lowe’s.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 20 years, Shirley Shaw Sears; his children, Cheryl Page (Bryan) of Burke, VA, Kathryn Basha (Roger) of Isle of Palms, SC, Maureen Bower (Roy) of Jefferson, NY, Kenneth Sears (Kathy) of Richmond, VA, Leslie Sears (Rick Pollock) of Sterling, VA, and Pamela Atkinson (Stephen) of Charlottesville, VA; his stepchildren, David, Andrew and D. James Shaw and Sherrie Kipps; fifteen grandchildren, Matthew (Traci) and Stephen Page, Thomas and Ian Basha, Kimberly (Lucas) Kinkade, Theresa, Amy and Christine Bower, Cory and Sidney Bates, Austin and Lauren Pollock, and Katie, Zachary, and Tori Atkinson; seven step-grandchildren; three great –grandchildren, Connor and Mason Kinkade and Kylie Page; and a niece, Susan Bushnell.
Skip was preceded in death by his first wife of 42 years, Joan (Cavanagh) Sears; twin great- granddaughters, Kaylee and Melanie Page; stepson, Scott Shaw; his parents; sister, Gail Wright and nephew, Bobby Bushnell.
A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 18, 2018 at Riverview Cemetery on Rosser Avenue in Waynesboro. Those wishing to attend the service are asked to meet at the cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Stephen Page, Samir Najam, Thomas and Ian Basha, Zachary Atkinson and Lucas Kinkade.
There will be no public visitation at the funeral home.
