Terri graduated from Stonewall Jackson High School in 1977. She earned her bachelor’s degree in Social Work and a master’s degree in Special Education from James Madison University. She dedicated over twenty-five years to the fields of elementary and special education through multiple school systems: Augusta County, Lexington City, Frederick County and Grace Christian. She later served at Liberty University as Director of Student Teaching and as an Adjunct Professor, before an early retirement due to illness. She was a dedicated and gifted teacher who loved her students, coworkers and family deeply.
Terri’s faith was the cornerstone of her life and the foundation of her infinitely compassionate and steadfast spirit. She cherished her church community, Bible studies and international Christian missions. Terri eagerly awaited the glorious day her Heavenly Father would call her home.
Terri is survived by her four children, Kristi Modlin, Amy Modlin (Evan Showalter), Derek Modlin (Kelsey), and Joy Modlin (Michael); her brother, Dean Middleton and family; and her three beloved grandchildren, Mary (9), Grey (3), and Todd (6 months). She is also survived by her former spouse, Preston Modlin.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 4, at 11 a.m. at Greenmonte Fellowship Church, officiated by Pastor Seth Hankee. A Celebration of Life reception will follow at the church.
