

Theodore Boyd Campbell, 89, formerly of Waynesboro, and a resident of the Virginia Mennonite Retirement Community for the past two years, passed away early Tuesday, November 15, 2011 at Rockingham Memorial Hospital.
He was born August 28, 1922 in Augusta County, a son of the late Franklin Ernest Boyd and Mae Nora Wright Campbell.
He was a 1943 graduate of Waynesboro High School, was a United States Army Veteran, a member of the Waynesboro Church of the Brethren and retired from VEPCO as a lineman where he was employed from 1952 until his retirement in 1984.
Mr. Campbell was presented a plaque dedicating the Babe Ruth Baseball Field in Ridgeview Park, where he coached for 20 years in the Babe Ruth League. Eight of his teams went to district playoffs and five advanced to the state competition.
On January 2, 1943, the student body of Waynesboro High School was assembled to honor Mr. Campbell who was an outstanding senior that was being inducted into the Armed Forces following his receiving his high school diploma. This was the first time in the history of Waynesboro High School that a senior was publicly graduated in the month of January.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Frances Campbell on November 14, 2009; a son, Theodore “Chip” Campbell; a brother, William “Bill” Campbell; three sisters, Dorothy Terrell, Beatrice Judd and Geneva Phillips.
Survivors include a son, Timothy L. Campbell and wife Debby Lynn of Abington,Va; daughter, Cindy Wheaton and husband Jay of Arlington, Texas; daughter Sheri Bender and husband Daryl of Harrisonburg, Virginia; a brother, Manuel Campbell and wife Maria of Arizona; four sisters; Barbara Shifflett of Waynesboro;Vicky Snead of Waynesboro; Patsy DePriest of Waynesboro; Judy Stone and husband Kim of Fishersville; brother-in-law, Irvin Judd of Waynesboro; sister-in-law, Kathy Fisher of Waynesboro: eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held 11:00 AM Friday, November 18, 2011 at the Waynesboro Church of the Brethren by Andy Shifflett. Burial will follow in Riverview Cemetery with military rites provided by Stuarts Draft VFW Post 9339.
Active pallbearers will be Daryl Bender, Jay Wheaton, Mikey Cupp, Nathan Seith, Teddy Campbell and Mike Cupp.
Honorary pallbearers will be his nieces, nephews and friends attending the service.
The family will receive friends from 6-7:00 PM Thursday, November 17, 2011 at the Waynesboro Chapel of Reynolds Hamrick Funeral Homes and other times at the residence of his daughter, Sheri Bender of 1871 Buckland Drive, Harrisonburg or his sister, Judy Stone of 82 Fishersville Rd., Fishersville.
