
Vernon proudly served his country in the United States Army. He retired as a Lathe Operator with Cole Tool Inc. Mr. Burnett was a member of Shenandoah Heights Baptist Church. He greatly enjoyed woodworking, camping and cheering on his favorite baseball team, the Baltimore Orioles. Vernon will be remembered for being a very humble and simple man with a strong faith.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mary (Mills) Burnett; son, Dennis Burnett and his siblings.
Survivors include his daughters, Denise F. Brugler and husband, Tom and Sandy Skillman Rooney and husband, Mike; sons, Larry A. Skillman and wife, Deb and Michael J. Skillman; daughter-in-law, Cynthia (Quick) Burnett; sisters, Shirley Hall and Agatha Marshall; grandson, Dustin Brugler; as well as a number of additional grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and extended family.
A graveside service with Military Honors will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 28, 2016 at Augusta Memorial Park with Pastor Paul F. LaPrevotte.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, December 27, 2016 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the Waynesboro Chapel of Reynolds Hamrick Funeral Homes.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Vernon’s memory to his church, Shenandoah Heights Baptist Church, 901 Shenandoah Avenue, Waynesboro Virginia, 22980.
