

Vernon David Hoke II, 50 of Waynesboro, passed away Saturday, February 7, 2015 at his residence surrounded by his family, after a courageous battle with cancer. Born on January 17, 1965 in White Sulphur Springs, West Virginia, a son of the surviving Mary Lee and the late Vernon David Hoke, Sr.
Vernon David graduated from Waynesboro High School, class of 1983 and The Virginia Military Institute, class of 1987. He honorably served his country for seven years in the U.S. Army, where he achieved the rank of Captain. After leaving the military, he began his career with the Virginia Department of Transportation in 1994. Vernon David loved the outdoors, hunting, fishing, gardening, and experimenting growing different foods and plants.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by his loving wife of 23 years, Lori Huffman Hoke; daughter, Erica Ryan; son, Matthew David Hoke, brother, Jeffrey Wayne Hoke and wife Lara all of Waynesboro, Virginia; grandmother, Lucille McDowell of White Sulphur Springs, West Virginia; mother & father- in -law, Joyce and Nolan Huffman of Waynesboro, Virginia, as well as a number of uncles, aunts, nieces, and nephews.
A funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 11, 2015 at Blue Ridge Church of Christ, 1275 Goose Creek Road, Fishersville, VA 22939 with Pastor Todd Brown officiating.
Burial will follow in Riverview Cemetery.
Active pallbearers will be Wayne Huffman, Alan Huffman, Kristopher Huffman, Bobby McDowell, Ronnie McDowell and Mark Nutter.
The family will receive friends Tuesday, February 10, 2015 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Reynolds Hamrick Funeral Homes in Waynesboro.
