Mr. Via was born on January 18, 1928 in Waynesboro, VA and was a son of the late Vincent Rudolph and Beulah (Wright) Via. He worked for 38 years as a linesman for the former Virginia Power. Rudy enjoyed bowling and took part in several bowling leagues. He loved traveling to Atlantic City and watching sports. He also played baseball for the Waynesboro Generals.
Mr. Via was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Frances Hartman in 1981 and by his companion of 27 years, Arbutus Weaver in 2011.
He is survived by a son, Anthony “Tony” Via of Waynesboro; a brother, Rodger Via and wife Judy of Raleigh, NC; two nephews, Christopher and Daniel Via of Raleigh, NC; and a niece, Cynthia Veaman of Snow Hill, NC. He was also preceded in death by a son, Larry Via and a daughter, Brenda Haymaker.
The Via family will receive friends on Tuesday evening from 7 until 8 PM at the Waynesboro Chapel of Reynolds Hamrick Funeral Homes. A private graveside service will be held at Riverview Cemetery with Pastor Matt Coiner officiating.
