He was born June 19, 1940, a son of the late Wallace Mitchell, Sr. and Dorothy Irene Pickett Thompson.
Wally retired from Poly Bond.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Steve Thompson, and a sister, Gay Carter.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Estelle Henderson Thompson; son, David Thompson; daughter, Lena June Mayne; four grandchildren, Trina Nicole Thompson, Caleb Vinton Harris, Gregory Daniel Harris, Tonya Faye Orebaugh; twelve great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.
Following cremation, the family will receive friends from 6-8:00 PM Tuesday, March 21, 2017 at the Waynesboro Chapel of Reynolds Hamrick Funeral Homes. Burial will be private.
