

Walter Thomas Wood, 77, of 143 Harriston Rd., passed away Saturday afternoon at the Shenandoah Hospice House. He was born March 18, 1934 in Augusta County, a son of the late Elbert W. and Manola Whitmer Wood. He was a U.S. Army Veteran, retired from Lance Foods as a salesman and attended Blue Ridge Chapel Church of the Brethren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Patricia Peters Wood, brothers; Lester W. Wood, Harry Lee Wood, Carl W. Wood and a sister, Ann Frazier. Survivors include his wife, Jean Wood, a step-son; Franklin E. Herron and wife Priscilla A. of Waynesboro, step-daughter; Ileta K. Sondrol and husband Mark of Waynesboro, sister; Rose Taylor and husband James of Grottoes, eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. A service will be held 2:00 PM Wednesday, November 23, 2011 at the Waynesboro Chapel of Reynolds Hamrick Funeral Homes by Pastor Larry Black, Charles Webb and Clayton Frazier.
Burial will follow in Mt. Bethel United Methodist Church Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Keith Mays, David Price, David Cupp, Jamie Smith, Jason and Bobby Offenbacker. Honorary pallbearers will be Tommy Hoy, Oliver Sandridge, Daniel Kanagy, Jon Cook, Davis Angus, Jack Smith, R. M. Meek and Charlie Patterson, lll. The family will receive friends from 6-8:00 PM Tuesday, November 22, 2011 at the funeral home.
