She was born on September 17th, 1936, in Pittsburgh, PA, the daughter of the late Frank J. and Kathryn Hoskinson Bryan of Waynesburg.
A member of Waynesburg High School’s class of 1954, Betty went on to graduate from Harcum Junior College, Bryn Mawr, PA, embracing her time there as “a Harcum Girl” —a title she carried with fondness throughout her life.
In May of 1958, Betty wed William J. Leskosky (d. 2007.) The couple welcomed three children during their marriage: William B. Leskosky (Criss) of Waynesburg, Linda Ricker (Mike) of Starke, FL, and Kathryn Leskosky of Reddick, FL.
Later in life, Betty attended Waynesburg College and began a meaningful career as a Lab Technician. She worked in hospitals in Florida and at the former Greene County Memorial Hospital in Waynesburg, where she became highly skilled in her craft. Her workplace became more than just a job…… it was a community where she formed deep, lasting friendships. Among these friendships was a nurse named Nancy who remained her dear friend, confidant, and devoted caregiver through the final chapter of her life.
Though she contracted polio at a young age and lived with the lasting effects of post-polio syndrome, Betty never allowed it to define her. She met her physical challenges with quiet strength and dignity, maintaining her independence for many years.
Betty found her truest sense of peace in the water. Swimming was a sanctuary for her…. a place where she experienced the freedom of movement that daily life often made difficult. She loved the ocean and spent countless joyful hours at the beach, both during her years living in Florida and on treasured beach trips with friends.
Many in the Waynesburg community will fondly remember Betty and her family as the owners and operators of Bryan’s Dairy. The name "Bryan" still sparks conversations filled with cherished memories of hand-dipped ice cream, fresh cottage cheese, and ice-cold milk.
Betty had a deep affinity for Greene County, finding beauty in its rolling green hills, the rustling leaves of sycamore trees, the vibrant colors of autumn, and the charm of it’s covered bridges. Betty enjoyed attending her high school class reunions for many years, cherishing the chance to reconnect with old friends and share fond memories. In her senior year, she was honored as May Queen—a reflection of the charisma and warmth that made her so beloved by her classmates.
Betty's legacy is one of quiet resilience, cherished friendship, and a deep appreciation for the beauty in life’s simple moments. Her generosity, woven into the fabric of her everyday life, made those around her feel seen and valued. Whether through a kind gesture, a thoughtful word, or simply extending support when needed, Betty’s giving spirit touched many. Her wonderful sense of humor and quick wit brought joy and laughter wherever she went, leaving smiles and fond memories in her wake. She will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her, not only for the love she gave to her family but also for the countless ways she enriched the lives of those fortunate enough to call her a friend.
Betty is preceded in death by her parents, brother Woodrow (Woody) Bryan, and son William (Bill) Leskosky.
