She was born in Noblestown, PA to Frederick Dickson Marshall and Lillian Muriel Wells Marshall on November 27, 1923. She was the second youngest of eleven children. She graduated with honors from Wilkinsburg High School in 1941.
Clara married Dr. William Free Baird Sr. on July 4, 1943, and shared 62 years of loving marriage until his death in 2006.
They moved to Waynesburg in 1957, where William was employed as a pathologist at Greene County Memorial Hospital for many years.
Clara was active in many clubs and volunteer organizations including the Twentieth Century Club, Medical Auxiliary, Eastern Star, Waynesburg Women’s Club, Children’s Literary Guild, Social Service League, and the Cherry Door.
She enjoyed her family foremost, entertaining friends, gardening, traveling, reading, baking, and playing gin rummy, pinochle, and bridge. She loved to dance.
Deceased in addition to her parents is one son, Robert Eric, who died in infancy, and nine siblings, Fred Marshall, Lillian Gries, Elmira Hopf, Samuel Marshall, Betty Carter, Minerva Marshall, Pauline Marshall, Lulu Keller, and Margaret McFeaters.
Leaving behind to miss her dearly are her children, William Free Baird Jr. (Sally), Richard Keith Baird, and Chera Lynn Doty (Robert); six grandchildren, Jeffrey Baird (Leigh), Jonathan Baird (Laura Neil), Corrine (Corri) Baird-Jones, Scott Doty (Jessie), Justin Baird (Missy) and Eric Doty (Katie); one sister, Pearl Adele (P.A.) Frazier; also 8 great-grandchildren, Jennifer Baird, Emma Jones, Bisou and Holden Baird, Keira and Jayden Baird, Benjamin and Lucas Doty; and many nieces and nephews.
