Dana was born January 26, 1979, in Washington, D.C., the son of the late Dana Nathaniel Spriggs and Deborah Gibbs Spriggs.
Dana spent his early years in Washington, D.C. In 1993, he relocated to Waynesburg to live with his grandmother, the late Della E. Gibbs.
Dana was a graduate of Waynesburg High School. He was employed at Yum Yum Donuts and Kyowa America Corporation in Waynesburg. He desired to attend an art institute to further his education in graphic design.
While in Pennsylvania he attended Little Zion Baptist Church in Jefferson, and Mallory Chapel (now Signal of Light Full Gospel Church) in Edenborn.
Dana relocated to San Francisco, CA where he was employed for five years at a moving company. He was also a DJ anda featured artist on recordings with his brother Carlos. He later relocated to Santa Cruz, CA, and resided there until his passing. Dana was very artistic and enjoyed art and drawings. While in Santa Cruz he spent hours doing wood carvings and especially walking sticks. He was also regarded as one of the best bicycle repairman in town. In his younger years he loved skateboarding.
Surviving are three brothers, Carlos Gibbs of Shanghai, China, Rivion Johnson (Renee) of Atlanta, GA, and Joshua Washington (Silicia) of Upper Marlboro, MD; one sister, Monifa Washington of Landover, MD; two uncles Leonard Spriggs (Evelyn) of Midland, VA, and Ralph Tedder (Shirley) of Maple Heights, OH; four aunts, Evaughn Gibbs of Waynesburg, Teryl Gibbs of Calumet City, IL, Pamela Spriggs of Cherverly, MD, and Vicky Togans (Ted) of White Plains, MD; and several nephews, nieces and cousins.
The family sends a special thanks to Nicole Jones for all the help she extended to Dana and for reaching out to his family during his time in Santa Cruz. Nicole has been such a blessing to the family.
