

Edwin E. Young, 91, of Waynesburg, Pennsylvania passed away on January 12, 2017 of natural causes. Edwin was born in Ellsworth, PA and graduated early from Waynesburg High School to enter World War II. He proudly served in the navy on the USS Mahan which was sunk in the South Pacific. He was a member of the Tin Can Sailors and attended many reunions with his shipmates. He was a veteran who belonged to the VFW, the American Legion, and the Loyal Order of the Moose.
He was a steel worker who retired from Jessop Steel in Washington, PA. His retirement years have been spent traveling with his much-loved wife of 68 years, Elizabeth and spending time with his children and grandchildren.
He was part of the “Great Generation” and exemplified the characteristics of pride in his country; humility with regard to his sacrifice; and dedication to his friends and family. He was our #1 driver, packer extraordinaire, and lawn care specialist. Traveling with him was always an adventure.
Edwin is survived by his wife Elizabeth Stephens Young; his four children Kenneth Young (Jackie Young) of Waynesburg, Robert Young (Debbie Young) of Waynesburg, Janet Young Frasca of Savannah, GA, and Barbara Young Helmeci (Christopher Helmeci) of Pittsburgh, PA; his six grandchildren; one great-grand daughter, Alice; and many other family and friends.
Friends will be received from 2 pm-5:30 pm on Tuesday, January 17, 2017 in Behm Funeral Home, 182 W. High St., Waynesburg, followed by a memorial service with Dr. Edward Pierce officiating. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the charity of your choice.
