Elizabeth S. Stephens Young

Elizabeth Stephens Young, 88, of Waynesburg passed away peacefully with her family on May 27, 2017 after a recurring battle with cancer. Elizabeth was born in Garard’s Fort, PA and graduated from Waynesburg High School. She started her career at First Federal Savings and Loan shortly after graduating, later worked at Hook’s Law Office, and finished her career at the Home Health office of Greene County Hospital.

She was a long-standing member of the First Baptist Church. She loved to sew and quilt and belonged to quilting groups in both Waynesburg and Florida. Her favorite time of day was afternoon coffee with her friend and confidant Carole. She enjoyed spending time with friends and family-- her Hoy Family reunions especially. She and her husband spent over 20 happy retirement years as snowbirds in Florida during the winter and traveling together to any beach they could find. She was the glue, or should we say the thread, that held our family together.

Elizabeth was preceded in death by her husband, Edwin. She is survived by her four loving children Kenneth Young (Jackie) of Waynesburg, Robert Young (Debbie) of Waynesburg, Janet Young Frasca of Savannah, GA, and Barbara Young Helmeci (Christopher) of Pittsburgh; her six grandchildren and one great-grand daughter, Alice; as well as many other family members and friends.

Friends will be received 3 p.m. to 4:30 p.m., Sunday, June 4, 2017 in the First Baptist Church , 303 West High St., Waynesburg where a memorial service will be held at 4:30 p.m. with Dr. Stewart Johnson officiating. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the American Cancer Society.
