He was born June 11, 1950, in Waynesburg, PA, a son of the late James Shipley and Dorothy Clipper Shipley.
George was a member of the Jefferson Baptist Church.
He worked as a coal miner, starting at Gateway Mine and later for Emerald Mine, where he retired from in 2010. Everyone knew him as "Peepers." He frequented Dairy Queen on a daily basis and loved spending time with is family, especially his grandchildren.
His Wife: Darlene Kay Shipley, whom he married on April 14, 1985 passed away on June 17, 2026. Surviving are 2 Daughters: Florence Marie Shipley and partner Bruce of Greensburg, PA, Kathy Lee Farrier and husband Johnny of Jefferson, PA, 2 Stepsons: Jason Silverthorne and Mark Silverthorne of Jefferson, PA, 2 Grandchildren: A.J. Farrier and Aubrey Farrier of Jefferson, PA, 1 Sister: Dolores Asbury of Weirton, WV, 2 Brothers: Gary Shipley of Cincinnati, OH and Edward and wife Darlene Shipley of Jefferson, PA.
Deceased: 2 Sisters- Lula Nell Acklin and Dorothy Gatrell and 1 Brother- James Shipley.
Visitation will be held from 2:00 to 4:00 PM and from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Tuesday, August 4, 2026 in the Milliken and Throckmorton Funeral Home, Inc. 197 N. Maiden St., Waynesburg, PA 15370 Shane M. Ayers-Managing Director, where the funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, August 5, 2026.
