Helen P. Drizos, 90 of Myakka City, FL, formerly of Waynesburg, PA, died on July 27, 2016 in Sarasota FL. She was born August 25, 1925 in Clarksburg, WV, daughter of the late Peter and Hreso Manolakis Padais (originally from Chios, Greece.)
Mrs. Drizos was a member of St. Barbara Greek Orthodox Church in Sarasota, FL and a former member of All Saints Greek Orthodox Church in Canonsburg, PA.
On April 19, 1942 Helen married Nick Drizos from Waynesburg PA. Nick was a shoe cobbler and owner of The City Shoe Shop in Waynesburg from 1942 until his retirement in 2004. Both Helen and Nick were well loved members of the community and lived most of their life in Waynesburg. They moved to Myakka City, FL upon Nick’s retirement to be close to their son Nick.
Family and friends were her passion and Helen was known by all for her generosity and loving kindness. If you visited her at home and left hungry, it was your fault! She so much enjoyed all the friends of her three sons and thought of them as family.
Surviving are three sons, Pete Drizos of Sioux Falls, SD, Steve Drizos of Harrisburg, PA and Nick Drizos of Myakka City, FL; 6 grandchildren, Nicholas, Jodi, Kristin, Stephen, Dana and Peter; 11 great grandchildren.
Helen was also known affectionately by family and friends as “The Queen Mother” (and "Hellion" by dear family friend, Albie Rinehart). She will be deeply missed. May she rest in peace!
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, in the Behm Funeral Homes, Inc., 182 W.
