James C. Atkinson, 84 of Waynesburg, PA passed at 1:57 AM on August 22, 2026 at UPMC Greene, Waynesburg, PA. James was born on April 18, 1942 in Waynesburg, PA a son of the late John "Jack" Atkinson and Mary Ellen Cummins Atkinson. He was a lifelong resident of Waynesburg, Pennsylvania. He was also a member of the James T. Maxon American Legion Post #992 of Mount Morris, PA, as well as a member of the Mount Morris United Methodist Church.
James served as a member of the Army National Guard and later worked for Carnegie Gas Company from 1968 to 1996, retiring as a supervisor.
He loved baking, hunting, watching westerns and NASCAR and spending time with his best friend Milo. James genuinely loved spending time with his family.
His Wife: Mary Higgins Atkinson, whom he married on September 2, 1977 survives. Also surviving are 2 Daughters: Shirlene Snyder of Waynesburg, PA and Carol Kolat of Waynesburg, PA, 6 Grandchildren: Erica Kolat, Rick (Jennifer) Kolat, Ryan (Rose) Snyder, Jeremy Snyder, Meghan (Rob) Salosky, Laura Jacob, 13 Great-Grandchildren, 1 Aunt: Isabelle Strosnider of Mount Morris, PA, his best buddy Milo and 2 cousins who he was very close to: Chris and Kim Eisiminger.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Wednesday, August 26, 2026 in the Milliken and Throckmorton Funeral Home, Inc. 197 N. Maiden St., Waynesburg, PA 15370 Shane M. Ayers- Managing Director with his funeral service being held at 11:30 AM, Thursday, August 27, 2026 with Rev. Dr. Jacob Judy officiating. Entombment will follow at Greene County Memorial Park, Morgan Twp., Greene Co., PA 15370
