She was born September 22, 1979 in Waynesburg, the loving and loved daughter of Franklin (Frank) and Judi Hunter.
She was a 1997 graduate of Waynesburg Central High School and a 2001 graduate of Guilford College in Greensboro, NC, and an avid and interested student of life in general all her life. A few of her many special interests included the Pittsburgh Penguins, Colonial Williamsburg, reading, American and English history, Sunset Beach, NC, experimenting with plants in her yard and flower gardens, and online fan-fic role-playing. She was a member of the WCHS volleyball team, and for 14 years enjoyed participating in all forms of dance, form ballet to tap.
In addition to her parents, Katie is survived by her grandmother, Maryanne F. Evans of Waynesburg, appreciated aunts, uncles, cousins and friends, and a very special, dear-to-her-heart group of young second cousins: Mari, Kiera, Amber and John Logan Evans, in whose activities she always took great interest and satisfaction.
And, of course, her clowder of kitties, who brought her much joy, and were the object of her faithful attention and care. In that vein, anyone kind enough who wish to honor Katie’s memory might make a donation to the Greene County Humane Society, 183 Jefferson Road, Waynesburg, PA 15370. We know she’d be grateful --- as will the cats and dogs at the shelter.
Her grandparents J. Ray Evans, Dorothy Hunter and Frank Hunter Sr., preceded her in death.
Katie exemplified a kind, never mean or hurtful, oh-so-patient facilitator in her dealings with friends and family, was the troubleshooter and problem solver who balanced differed points of view without forcing her own opinions of others. She was a good listener, a shoulder to cry on, a source for much wisdom and the supplier of practical solutions to the crazy vagaries of life. She had a keen, clever, subtle sense of humor and a twinkle in her eye for ‘inside’ jokes.
Arrangements are being made by the Behm Funeral Home in Waynesburg. The family appreciates the love and support shown by the community, but no service or memorial event has been planned at this time. Condolences may be offered at www.behmfh.com .
“But since it falls unto my lot That I should rise and you should not,
I’ll gently rise and I’ll softly call ‘Good night, and joy be to you all’
So fill to me the parting glass; Good night and joy be to you all.”
