Mary Ann Filer 82 of Waynesburg went home to be with the Lord on Easter Sunday, April 21, 2019 after a valiant six month battle with a rare form of ovarian cancer.

She was born September 26, 1936 in Waynesburg, a daughter of the late William Stanford Mooney and Ida Rose Mooney.

On October 15, 1957 she married Dana E. Filer, who passed away on July 13, 1998.

Mary Ann had worked for several local businesses including: Islay’s, Rexall, Greenway Manufacturing, Columbia Gas Transmission, and the cafeteria at Margaret Bell Miller Middle School, which she enjoyed because of her love for all the children.

She was a member of the First Christian Church of Waynesburg and was affiliated with Fairall United Methodist Church Festivals. In her earlier years she had also taught Sunday school.

She was a proud member of both the Whiteley Township Society of Farm Women, and the Waynesburg High School Class of 1954.

Mary Ann was a devoted and beloved Mom, Grandma, and Great-grandma who understood the value of spending time with all of her children. She always enjoyed being of help to others. She loved being outdoors, gardening, and horse and 4H shows, and feeding her hummingbirds. She was an avid local scholastic sports fan, and when health permitted was always present cheering everyone on, especially wrestling and track and field.

Surviving are two daughters, Tammy Bryan (Frank) and Tonya Patton (Timothy King) both of Waynesburg; 4 grandchildren, Frank Bryan (Jessica), Lee Bryan, (Emily) Cody Patton, and Randi Lee Shirley (James); 7 great-grandchildren, Dayla and Daxon Shirley, Frankie, Knox, and Colt Bryan, and Lily and Lincoln Bryan; 2 brothers, John Mooney (Elva) of Washington and Bill Mooney (Jane) of Vermillion, OH; and all her endeared nieces and nephews.

Deceased are 2 sisters, Alene Luzadder and Helen Husk; and 4 brothers, Robert Mooney, James Mooney, C. Kenneth Mooney, and Charles Mooney.

Friends will be received 2pm to 4 pm and 6 pm to 8 pm Thursday in Behm Funeral Homes Inc., 182 W. High St., Waynesburg, where services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, April 26, 2019 with Pastor Robert Mooney officiating followed by entombment in Greene County Memorial Park. Tammy & Tonya,
My deepest sympathy to you and your families for the loss of your Mother. As childhood friends and neighbors, I have so many great memories of growing up together. I will always remember your Mother as having a kind heart, a warm smile and an open door for all the neighborhood kids. We were blessed with wonderful Mothers and Aunt Helen to always keep a watchful eye out for us. Sending my thoughts and prayers to you at this most difficult time. Rest in Peace Mary Ann.
Love, Debbie Millikin Phillips

I am so grateful Mary Ann and my mother had the opportunity to visit us in Florida. It was great spending time with her and I will forever cherish those memories. Mary Ann was a big part of our family and my mom was very lucky to have such a wonderful friend. My deepest sympathy to Tammy, Tonya and their families.

Mary Ann was such a special lady. She was a such a great friend to my Grandma and always treated us like family. We all love her. I loved watching her wrestle around with my kids and making them laugh when she came to visit. She will be missed so very much. Sending prayers of comfort to all of the family.

Aunt Mary Ann was always so kind and thoughtful. She always supported the family by doing so many things for everyone. For the reunions she always made the most delicious deviled eggs. She really cared about you and showed it! We will miss her very much but know she is with the Lord.

The WHS class of 1954 send our condolences to Mary Ann's family. Mary Ann was a part of our reunion committee from at least, 2004 our 50th class reunion, and maybe even more before that. She was a great worker with our committee.

We will miss her very much, and I know you will miss her even more.

Our prayers are with all of you.
