Richard was truly one of a kind - a man whose life was defined by love, generosity, and unwavering devotion to his family and community. He lived each day with purpose, always putting the needs of his children, grandchildren, and those around him before his own.
Known for having the biggest heart, Richard never hesitated to lend a helping hand. If anyone needed him, he was there - steady, dependable, and full of quiet strength. His kindness left a lasting impact on everyone fortunate enough to know him.
After a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer, Richard passed peacefully at home yesterday, surrounded by the love of his family. While our hearts carry deep sorrow, we find comfort in knowing he is now at peace.
Richard was welcomed into eternal rest by our Lord and lovingly reunited with his parents, Wylie Franklin and Edith Loretta; his sisters, Wyletta "Lettie" and Sharon Louise; and his beloved daughter, Kalah Marie. We can only imagine the joy in Heaven as he was received that evening.
Richard is survived by his wife of 45 years, Candy "Sue" Cheek; children, Wylie F. Cheek, III, Price A. Cheek, Kersha Leadbeater (Justin), and Ranee Montoya (Omar); siblings, Wylie F. Cheek, Jr. (Terry), Jackie Stoneking (the late Chuck), Dee Eisminger (the late Tink), Lori Cowie (Jimmy); 8 grandchildren, and 1 great-grandchild.
Richard was a union pipeliner out of local union 1058 from 1986 to 2015. He enjoyed farming, hunting, and watching hockey.
His legacy of love, compassion, and selflessness will live on through all who knew and loved him.
