

A lifetime resident, born and raised in Waynesburg, Sam was son of Jesse R. Scott and Edna Montgomery Scott. He was happily married to Jean Longanecker Scott for 39 years until her death in 1988. A sister, Ruth Scott Brown lives in Largo, FL and and another sister, Katharine Scott Soles is predeceased. Sam leaves 3 daughters and son-in-laws, Carol Scott and Michael Meighen of Pittsburgh; Diane and Jim Schmunk of Avon CT; Nancy and Ron Burton, of Acworth GA. In his retirement years, he loved nothing more than traveling to northern PA, Connecticut, Arizona, and Georgia to spend time with his 7 grandchildren, and their families.
Sam graduated from Waynesburg High School in 1939 and then when on to Duke University; he served in the US Air Force during WWII, and was the owner of Revere Natural Gas Company in Jefferson until 1983. He was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church of Waynesburg where he served as elder for many years; he was a Past Master of Waynesburg Lodge #153 Free and Accepted Masons; and a member of Syria Temple, Washington – Greene County Caravan #2. He served on the board of Greene County Memorial Hospital; was president of the board of Green Mount Cemetery in Waynesburg; and was a lifelong member of Greene County Country Club.
Sam will be forever remembered and missed as a loving father and grandfather, an avid lifetime golfer and road-tripper, servant to God and his family, a generous and loyal friend.
Friends will be received 2 to 4 & 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Behm Funeral Homes Inc., 182 West High St., Waynesburg. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, March 13, 2012 at the First Presbyterian Church, 169 West College St., Waynesburg with Rev. William Sukolsky and Rev. Ron Burton, D. Min. officiating. Waynesburg Lodge no 153 F. & A.M. will hold services at 6 p.m. Monday in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to First Presbyterian Church, PO Box 446, Waynesburg, Pa; Forbes Hospice, Forbes Health Foundation, 2570 Haymaker Rd., Monroeville, PA 15146; or to China Outreach Ministries, 555 Gettysburg Pike, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055.
