

He was born October 5, 1942 in Waynesburg, a son of the late Michael Richard Strayer and Dorothy Dunlap Strayer.
He was a graduate of Waynesburg High School and attended Polomar College in San Marcos, CA, and Penn State McKeesport.
Mr. Strayer was active as a United Methodist lay speaker in Greene County. He was a member of the church council of Oak View United Methodist Church in Waynesburg and was a former member of the choir.
He was a retired transportation construction inspector supervisor for PenDot in Uniontown, and a veteran of the U.S. Air Force. He enjoyed woodworking, reading and puzzles.
Surviving are his wife Nicki Nelson Strayer, whom he married in 1988; five children, Lori Bergeron (Randy), Lisa Tracy (Tim), Sam Strayer Jr. (Becky), Tim Strayer, and James Strayer; 2 step-children, Bill Folman and Julee Zimmer (Andrew); 6 grandchildren Jason Bergeron (Miranda), Hannah Chilcote (Casey), T.J. Tracy (Krystal), Sammi Jo Treadwell (Joe), Jory Tracy, and Jordan Strayer; 2 step-grandchildren, Lindsee and Evan Zimmer; 4 great-grandchildren, Maddie and Thomas Tracy, and Joey and Emma Treadwell; ; a brother Thomas Leo Strayer (Margie) of Indianola; and two sisters, Dorothy Ann Miller of Gulfport, Miss. and Carol L. Lippencott (Robert) of Greensboro.
Friends will be received from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. on Saturday, March 22, 2013 with services to follow in Oak View United Methodist Church, 160 Rolling Meadows Road, Waynesburg with Rev. David Stains and Rev. Robert Bedison officiating. Interment will be in Greene County Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Oak View United Methodist Church 160 Rolling Meadows Road, Waynesburg, PA 15370.
