Thomas “Wayne” Ankrom, 81 of Waynesburg, passed away on Sunday, June 1, 2025 at home, with his wife by his side. Wayne was born in Waynesburg on January 14, 1944 to the late Thomas “Albert” and Betty Ward Ankrom. He was the oldest of eleven siblings.
Wayne was a 1962 graduate of Waynesburg High School where he finished at the top of his class and excelled on the basketball court. Wayne continued his education and athletic career at Waynesburg College where he played basketball, ran cross-country and graduated in 1966 with a bachelor’s degree in education.
On December 18, 1976, Wayne married Patricia (Morris) Ankrom who survives. Patricia was the love of his life and he proudly spoke of her beauty and caring nature. Together, Wayne and Patricia raised five children. Wayne was most proud of his family and would share their accomplishments with those he spoke with.
Wayne was active in coaching baseball and basketball and enjoyed attending events for his children and grandchildren. He loved playing golf and shared his passion for the sport with his sons and grandson.
Wayne was most known for his impressive memory, intelligence and his love for telling old stories while recalling specific dates and details. Later in life, he enjoyed working crossword puzzles, playing Sudoku, sitting on his porch, keeping squirrels out of his bird feeders and spending time with family and his dog, Barney.
Wayne is survived by his wife of 48 years, Patricia and five children: Tammy L. Eddy of Waynesburg, Tracy D. Mills (Ernie) of Waynesburg, Scott R. Morris of Winston GA, Thomas W. Ankrom II (Kelly) of Waynesburg and Aaron T. Ankrom (Amy) of Waynesburg, 9 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.
Surviving are 6 siblings: Robert Ankrom (Ludi) of Peoria, IL, Charles Ankrom (the late Debra) of Waynesburg, Maxine Rutan (Jerry) of Oak Forest, Donise Ankrom (Scott Zollars) of Hickory, Brenda McClelland (Rusty) of Holbrook and Richard Ankrom (Dee) of New Bremen, OH.
Wayne was preceded in death by his parents and 4 siblings: Leonard Ankrom, Sandra Scott, Patricia “Sue” Loughman, and James “Ed” Ankrom.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, June 5 from 9:30 AM until 12 PM, the hour of service, at Behm Funeral Home, 182 W. High St., Waynesburg, PA 15370; interment to follow at Oakmont Cemetery.
